Pete Townshend - 1974-04-14 - London (first solo show)

Pete Townshend

Roundhouse, London, UK
Audience Recording, Good Quality
New! Now available in Lossless (FLAC) version in addition to Mp3 @ 192 kbps

Here's a little gem for you, also from the mid-seventies, the first solo gig ever from from Pete Townshend. Pete presents a fascinating and fairly casual show using electric and acoustic guitars, piano, some synthesizer tapes and the original 'My Generation' demos as he ran through a set that included several early Who classics like 'Substitute', 'Behind Blue Eyes', 'Pinball Wizard', and 'Magic Bus' (with one lyric cleverly changed to "...I'm so nervous I guess it shows. Don't say a thing about my great big nose..." for the occasion). The set also featured numerous covers and songs rarely heard by Townshend, such as Jimmy Reed's 'Big Boss Man' and 'Goin to New York', 'If I was A Carpenter', and 'North Country Girl'. This is the complete performance sourced from a private collection, this audience recording is of better quality than some other previous sources. Although far from perfect, it's quite good and a highly listenable audience recording, capturing this unique show and great performance. A must-have for any fan of the Who and Townshend.

Genesis - 1977-07-02 - Zurich Revisted v.2

Genesis
1977-07-02
Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland
Live in Zurich 1977 ("Zurich Revisited" version 2)

audience/soundboard matrix recording, excellent quality (A, genesis-movement.org)
mp3 @ 320 kbps
Artwork included

Here is another excellent show and recording from the 1977 show, generally considered to be the best available from this tour. This show was from near the end of the tour, and included some memorable songs that were not played at earler shows, with the great but rarely played 'Inside and Out' being the most significant. This particular recording version is a slightly modified version of a great bootleg known as 'Zurich Revisited', which was released some years ago by The Digital Brothers who did a great job merging two sources (soundboard and audience) to create an incredible sound matrix, restoring the live atmosphere that the raw soundboard was missing. This 'enhanced' version (version 2) corrects a few minor problems with audience noise interfering with introductions, some other minor problems, and also adds several additional songs from other shows that were played earlier in the tour, but dropped from the setlist for later shows. Thus, the whole experience (all the songs) from the tour are included in excellent sound quality.

Happy Birthday to the 'Chronicles'

Happy 2nd Birthday !

Well, believe it or not, this fledgeling little blog has been going for 2 full years's now, so Happy Birthday BB Chronicles! With so many music blogs coming and going very quickly these days, I guess that in itself is an achievement. Although this is only a very part-time activity, I am proud that I was able to substantially increase the number of posts and downloads in my second year compared to the first. Although I am at the very limit of amount of time I can spend on this already, I will try to keep active with updates and posts of great music that may be hard to find elsewhere. I hope that there are at least some of you out there that find something of interest here on a regular basis and keep checking back. Thank you to those of you that regularly visit. I have enjoyed this experience alot (though it is quite a bit of work) and it is great to be able to share my thoughts and tastes in music with others (although it would be nice to get some more comments and feedback on what you think of the music and opinions offered here). Most of all, though, as I did last year at this time, what I really want to do is thank all the others out there who have made so much of this incredible music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. I am only able to offer these downloads because others before me have made them available. So, to all the other bloggers, forum posters, and music fans that have collected these recordings and made them available over the internet, as well as to all the great artists and musicians out there that allow these recordings to be freely exchanged, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You. It has been a tremendous experience to have the opportunity to collect and listen to such a wide variety of great concerts, shows, and sessions that I never knew existed before or never would have heard. Thus, if I can share some of that joy with even just a few others through this blog, than it surely is worth it. So, thank you all again, and keep listening.

Genesis - 1973-10-20 - London ('Great Lost Live Album'-complete)

Genesis
1973-10-20
Rainbow Theatre, London, England
The Great Lost Live Album (recompiled)
FM Broadcast, Excellent Quality (A, genesis-movement.org)
mp3 @ 320 kbps
Artwork Included

Here is another great show from the Selling England by the Pound Tour, an excellent FM broadcast recording, originally broadcast as a KBFH show, but re-broadcast several times since then (most notably by WXRT in Chicago). This is a very well-known Genesis bootleg (and BTW, it never was 'Lost', but it is 'Great'), and this particular version is special because it also includes the missing song 'The Cinema Show', which was not included in the original broadcasts, and is not found on most of the bootleg recordings out there. However, for this version 'The Cinema Show' has been found (thanks to Eeklair source) and put back in it's rightful place in the concert order. So, even if you already have this show, it probably doesn't include the added 11 and 1/2 minutes of the sensational 'Cinema Show'. This is a marvelous document of a classic Genesis show. Enjoy!

Tracklist
01. Watcher of the Skies
02. Dancing with the Moonlit Knight
03. The Cinema Show
04. I Know What I Like
05. Firth of Fifth
06. More Fool Me
07. The Battle of Epping Forest
08. Supper's Ready
Total Running Time : 1:22:47

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Download no longer available!
Sorry, but this show has now been officially released, as part of the Genesis Live Box Set. The 'live' box set includes all of the previously released official live albums, and adds the complete 1973-10-20 Rainbow Theater show for the first time as a new official release. Thus, it is no longer available as an unofficial bootleg download, and the download link has been removed. Sorry.

Genesis - 1975-01-10 - West Palm Beach, FL (SAB-06)

Excellent Soundboard recording (A+, Genesis-movement.org)

OK, I know that so far all the Genesis I've posted has been in Lossless format, and that is basically because I always try to post stuff in the best quality that I have (and since Genesis is one of my very favorites I try to get the best quality out there). But, I am certainly not opposed to mp3 as a format, as it can be very useful. And I know that there are many out there who just don't use lossless because of the huge size and space requirements. So, anyway, I will try to share at least a few Genesis shows in mp3 before I move on to other things. I also have not yet posted a show from the great Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Tour, primarily because just about all the good shows are already readily available on the other blogs previously mentioned. But I have found a show that can rectify both of these situations. So, here is a great soundboard recording, one of the very best available from the Lamb tour, and one that is not currently available in mp3 at T.U.B.E . Most Genesis fans generally consider this album and tour as the crowning achievement of Genesis, their masterpiece, a bizarre and stunning vision (both musically and visually). Personally, although I too think it is a magnificent masterpiece, I still prefer Foxtrot and Selling England by the Pound overall (I always had trouble with disc 2 of Lamb, it just can't sustain the excellence of disc 1, or compare with their previous masterpieces), but that's just my preference. As a stage show, Lamb was certainly unprecedented as a musical spectacle. For Gabriel, this was his Swan Song with Genesis, and a magnificent one it was, as he left the group shortly after this tour. So, please enjoy The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Live, in all it's glory.

Remastered audience recording, very good quality (A-, genesis-movement.org)

In 1979, Genesis took an unplanned break, no album, no tour, so that Phil could take time to work through some personal problems (failing marriage). During that break, Banks and Rutherford each began working on solo albums (A Curious Feeling and Smallcreep's Day, respectively - both worth seeking out). When all three got back together in fall of 1979, they put together, Duke, their 2nd album as a trio. This album continued in the musical direction away from progressive rock toward radio-friendly pop-rock, although still retained some of their progressive spirit, and actually had 2 hit singles ('Misunderstanding', 'Turn It On Again'). This album and tour was generally considered to be either the last of their progressive rock career or beginning of their time as pop stars. For the 1980 Tour that followed, the boys were again supplemented by drummer Chester Thompson and guitarist Darryl Stuermer, and once again, despite any misgivings about the musical directions of the group, the band was still nonetheless pretty impressive in concert. This show from early in the tour includes some songs that were not played in the later US portion, including 'Carpet Crawlers', 'Say It's Alright Joe', and 'The Knife'), and also, Phil's voice is in fine form at this show, whereas in some of the later shows of the tour, the vocals showed obvious strain and wear. So, enjoy this 1980 version of Genesis Live.
