On the Scene for Seventeen: 17 years of BB Chronicles

On the Scene for Seventeen

Hey there, here we are in mid-April once again, which means it's Anniversary time for BB Chronicles. It's been 17 years since I started this somewhat misguided endeavor, and here I still am, stumbling along with my musical musings. 17 years, that's like a millennium for internet blogs, and throughout its ups and downs, highs and lows, I am still here sporadically putting out my limited content, and trying to help make some great lesser known music heard by more people. Hopefully, there have been things of interest for you to read and listen to here. But yes, the commentary is all my own opinions on music, so take note that your mileage may very much vary. Those that have followed this for awhile have probably noticed that the content has somewhat changed over the last couple years, with much less emphasis on concerts and live music posts, and focusing more on new album reviews, rankings of bands and artist's catalogs, and miscellaneous commentary on classic or underappreciated musical artists. And this will continue, as I have pretty much stopped collecting live bootleg recordings (just don't have time to sort through and listen to them) and focused more on released albums, both old and new. I still may post some live shows of interest once in awhile, just not that often. Of course, my past postings of shows are pretty much still available, although dead and dying links continue to be an issue that I try to fix as much as possible. But most of the new posts will be about those things that have dominated the past year or so: reviews, rankings, occasional old out of print albums, and discussion of underrated artists. Hopefully that kind of content is appreciated.

Anyway, once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, and those that have made it freely available for others. So, to all the other bloggers, tapers, forum posters, and music fans out there, and most importantly, to all the great artists and musicians that have created and performed this wonderful music, and certainly to all that have stumbled upon these pages, find something of interest and hopefully come back again, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists, as well as, wherever possible, go see them live in concert. The music and commentary here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

So, I will continue to carry on here, pretty much as I have, and I hope there are things here that are of interest that will keep you coming back for more, and to always be excited about all the great music all around us. As always, thanks for your interest and support. Take care, it's a brutal world out there, and we need our music to make it through.

Semi-Sweet Sixteen: 16 Years of BB Chronicles

A Semi-Sweet 16 Years

Well, here we are, it's April once again, which means it's another anniversary for the blog. That's right, it was 16 years ago this week that I started this fateful internet outpost, and throughout its ups and downs, highs and lows, I am still here sporadically putting out my musical musings and commentary, and trying to help make some great lesser known music heard by more people. And hey, there's been quite a bit of great stuff posted here over the years, if I do say so myself. Hopefully, there have been things of interest for you to read and listen to here. But yes, the commentary is all my own opinions on music, so take note that your mileage may very much vary. But I always try to present positive info and commentary and really only present and talk about artists I really love and hope others will enjoy as well, without trashing other artists that I may not be such a big fan of, as I know that others may very well be big fans of them (and all music has value). I try to present a variety of music that may be hard to find or not readily available elsewhere. I also try to provide some background and context to the music and artists, as well as my own commentary, reviews and rankings, to give those new to these artists some perspective and history, to explore the music further. Previously, I've been able to say that most everything I posted here was still available, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case, as with the demise of various filesharing services, a large proportion of my music posts are not currently available. All the Ulozto.net links (which are most of the FLAC files) are dead now, since ULOZto stopped allowing any sharing, and I have yet to find a reliable replacement for those larger than 200MB files. And there are still quite few of the old solidfiles links that have not been updated and replaced (although there are quite alot that have been fixed!). And even those that were fixed by using upload.eea have some problems, since that file service has now started putting in misleading and deceptive ads when the download link is clicked [Note:be sure to only click on the original green download button at the uploa.ee site and not any subsequent links or pages that may pop up. The download should start right away. If you get some other page come up that asks you to click on another button or anything else, delete that page, go back to the original dowmnload page and try again. It may take 2 or 3 tries to get it to download, but just don't click on any of the other pages or sites that come up. The lnks work, they just are a bit of pain now (which is a change from when I first started using the site). Anyway, we've weathered the demise or closure of several other filesharing sites previously, and we'll survive this one as well. It just may take awhile to get everything up and running again. But if you have a pressing need for something that is not currently available, let me know and I'll see what I can do about re-upping it.

Anyway, once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, and those that have made it freely available for others. I am only able to offer these downloads because others before me have made them available. So, to all the other bloggers, tapers, forum posters, and music fans that have collected these recordings and made them available over the internet, and most importantly, to all the great artists and musicians out there that have created and performed this wonderful music and allow these recordings to be freely exchanged, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists, as well as, wherever possible, go see them live in concert. The music and commentary here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

As for the blog itself, I have enjoyed varying the types of posts I've made, doing more of the album reviews, rankings and ratings, and special features, and I hope to do more of those in the coming months. Next up, I will be doing a ranking of the albums by the great classic progressive rock pioneers, The Moody Blues, as well as a few other special posts, and I hope to be doing more regular reviews of new albums, as well as older and classic albums, and then we'll see where it goes from there.

So, I will continue to carry on here, pretty much as I have, and I hope there are things here that are of interest that will keep you coming back for more, and to always be excited about all the great music all around us. As always, thanks for your interest and support. Take care.

15 Years of BB - Crystal Blog Occasion

BB Chronicles 15th Anniversary

Well, here we are, another year has gone by and it is April once again, and what do you know, it is now the 15th anniversary of this old blog. That's right 15 whole years of BB Chronicles, quite amazing. And traditionally, the 15th Anniversary is the Crystal Anniversary, so this is our (singing) 'Crystal Blog Occasion'.  Fifteen years, hard to believe when I started this that it would still be going 15 years later, but the days, weeks, months, and years pass by much quicker now as I get older. It's been a pretty good year, both for music and for the blog (but not for most everything else outside of that).

So, over these past 15 years a whole lot of great music has been talked about and presented here, of many different styles, all from artists that I personally enjoy very much, and hope that others will also enjoy. I try to present a variety of music that may be hard to find or not readily available elsewhere. I also try to provide some background and context to the music and artists, as well as my own commentary, reviews and rankings, to give those new to these artists some perspective and history, to explore the music further. Previously, I've been able to say that most everything I posted here was still available, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case, as all the Solidfiles links are now dead (which amounts to some 30-40 GB music files. Solidfiles had been a bit sporadic over the past year, going down occasionally and sometimes for extended periods, but now seems to be gone for good. Well, we've weathered the demise or closure of several other filesharing sites previously, and we'll survive this one as well. But until I find another somewhat reliable free filesharing service, I don't have anywhere to re-upload the missing files to, thus these probably will not be replaced anytime soon, and will take quite awhile even after finding a suitable home for them. But if you have a pressing need for something that is not currently available, let me know and I'll see what I can do about re-upping it. I'm trying out Uloz.to.disk now, but not sure if that will work out - we'll see. You also may have noticed that I've moved to more different kinds of posts, such as album reviews and rankings, and commentaries of various types, which is something I've been wanting to do for awhile now, and necessary since i am just not collecting live shows much anymore, so have less of these available to post. Hopefully, you will find the new content interesting and useful. (and I welcome comments regarding any of this content). And so I want to thank all of you out there who take the time to peruse this blog, download (and perhaps even read the commentary), and possibly provide comments or feedback, for making this endeavor worthwhile for me to continue.

As for the blog itself, I have a few special things planned for this month in honor of the 15th anniversary. next up will be a rundown of my 15 favorite albums of all time. I'm also planning a ranking of all The Kinks albums. The Kinks were the very first artist I featured on this blog 15 years ago (but have not done an album ranking of them yet), and this year is also the 60th Anniversary of The Kinks very first record in 1963.

So, I will continue to carry on here, pretty much as I have, and I hope there are things here that are of interest that will keep you coming back for more, and always excited about all the great music all around us. Thanks.

Fourteen 4 BB - 14 Years of BB Chronicles

What? 14 Weeks, 14 Months? No, 14 Years!

Well here we are, we made through to another Spring, and what do you know, the 14th anniversary of this little blog here. That's right, it's been 14 years since I started this thing, and I'm still going, albeit with a somewhat sporadic output, but still going. Not bad, eh? It's been a pretty good year for the blog I think. I finally got rid of all the old Zippyshare links, moving everything to Mega, Mediafire, or Solidfiles, and in the process updated and renewed all the old and expired links. Downloading should be easier now. I introduced some new features, including Top Ten Albums of the year list, Capsule Album Reviews, and the OOP Vinyl Curiosities series, in addition to the artist album and song rankings previously established, just to liven things up a bit. Of course, there still are also live recording downloads from a variety of great artists. And I managed to average at least a post a week over the last year, which is the first time that has happened since the early years of the blog.

So, over the last 14 years a whole lot of great music has been talked about and presented here, of many different styles, all from artists that I personally enjoy very much, and hope that others will also enjoy. I try to present a variety of music that may be hard to find or not readily available elsewhere. I also try to provide some background and context to the music and artists, as well as my own commentary, rather than just unadorned music files, to give those new to these artists some perspective and history, to explore the music further. And I also have tried to keep these posts available as much as possible over time, thus pretty much everything that has been posted previously should still be available (with the exception of things that ran into copyright issues). I hope that what I have provided here has been useful and worthwhile, as well as musically satisfying, and I hope it has been something that you come back to often and have been introduced to some new music here that you really enjoy, to expand your musical horizons and enjoyment, and be a positive addition to your musical experience as well as your music collection. And so I thank all of you out there who take the time to peruse this blog, download (and perhaps even read the commentary), and possibly provide comments or feedback, for making this endeavor worthwhile for me to continue.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists, as well as, wherever possible, go see them live in concert (as soon concerts are allowed again). The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

So, I'll continue doing what I do here, adding some new things now and again, but continuing on with all aspects of listening and enjoying music, and I hope that you will check back and join me (and possibly interact) from time to time, and I hope that you find some rewarding music and experiences here.

Triskaideka-bloggia - 13 Years of BB

Don't Fear Number Thirteen

Triskaidekaphobia refers to the quite real fear of the number 13, whereas triskaidekabloggia refers to the celebration of the 13th anniversary of a favorite web blog (I decided).

Well, here we are again. Another April, and another anniversary for this blog. It's now been 13 years since I started this folly. Think about that, 13 years, through the good years and bad years, I'm still here. So, it's really been one messed-up year since the last anniversary, but things are looking up. My family and I have made it through the pandemic relatively unscathed. I have now been vaccinated, as are increasing numbers of people every day. Soon. live music venues and concerts should be coming back.

So, anyway, Yes, this little outpost of a music blog has now been going for 13 full years, and although I readily acknowledge that it is not the most prolific or comprehensive blog around, a whole lot of great music has been talked about and presented here over the years, of many different styles, all from artists that I personally enjoy very much, and hope that others will also enjoy. And so I thank all of you out there who take the time to peruse this blog, download (and perhaps even read the comentary), and possibly provide comments or feedback, for making this endeavor worthwhile for me to continue.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists, as well as, wherever possible, go see them live in concert (as soon concerts are allowed again). The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

Moving Forward, I expect things to continue here along the same lines as previously (but maybe some improvements). I've been trying to post things a bit more consistently in recent months, and hopefully that will continue (or even improve) as the year goes on. I've introduced a new feature column of artist album rankings (so far only one done, but more coming). The next one up will be thoughts and ranking of another of my favorite artists, Genesis (will post that as soon as I get it written up). Other than that, I will always try to feature music and artists I think are worth hearing, with occasional tributes to recently fallen musical heroes. As always, I encourage feedback and discussion of anything mentioned or presented here. I know that there are alot of issues with Zippyshare for file storage (unavailable in many countries, and obnoxious, aggressive pop-ups throughout), but I have not been able to find a suitable substitute to transfer the bulk of what is currently on zippyshare. For most of the new stuff I am now using Solidfiles, but that has had problems too (regarding unavailability, unreliability at times, and a low storage maximum), such that I cannot use it to transfer large numbers of files. And my Mega accounts are also maxxed out, so to add anything added to them, something else has to be deleted. Anyway, again, if you know of other file storage options that are reliable, free, allow multiple simultaneous uploads/downloads, and have large storage capacity maximums, let me know. Anyway, Thanks to all, and let's try to stay safe, secure, and happy out there, and no matter what, be sure to appreciate and fully enjoy your music, whatever it may be.

A Blogger's Dozen - 12 Years of BB Chronicles

12 Year Pin

Hey now, what do ya know? It's been 12 years, and I forgot all about my own anniversary! It just did not register with me that it was April already. So apparently it is also true that time flies even when you're having no fun at all. Sure, there is alot going on. Yes, it's been trying times for all these days, locked in under a global pandemic. But this anniversary date had completely slipped my mind until I visited another blog that was acknowledging their own Anniversary (Congrats pj at Albums I Wish Existed), and then remembered - Hey I've got an Anniversary too, and it was last week!.

So, anyway, Yes, this little outpost of a music blog has now been going for 12 full years (that's comparable to around 70 in blog-years). How about that!  And although it certainly is not the most prolific blog (averaging around 3 posts per month for the past 4 years), a whole lot of great music has been talked about and presented here over the years, of many different styles, all from artists that I personally enjoy very much, and hope that others will also enjoy.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists, as well as, wherever possible, go see them live in concert (as soon concerts are allowed again). The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

Moving Forward, I expect things to continue much as they have, I'll try to semi-regularly present music and artists I think are worth hearing, with occasional tributes to recently fallen musical heroes. I have some more from the great John Prine to present over the next couple weeks, and then will move on to other great stuff I hope will interest you. As always, I encourage feedback and discussion of anything mentioned or presented here. There have been alot of issues with zippyshare in recent months (unavailable in many countries, and obnoxious, aggressive pop-ups throughout), so I am starting to transition away from them and will be trying some new file-share sites, but they all seem to have issues of their own, so we'll see how that goes. Anyway, Thanks to all, and let's stay safe and secure out there, and no matter what, enjoy your music, it can help you through whatever difficulties you are experiencing.

Right Here for Eleven Years

One One and Still Not Done

It's time once again to recognize that another year has past and BB Chronicles is still steadfastly moving forward, perhaps at a snail's pace, but still going nonetheless. That's right, we have miraculously reached the 11th Anniversary of this little bloggy endeavor, and have survived long after many other of these types of things have come and gone. And I believe we've covered a whole lot in those 11 years. A whole lot of great music has been talked about and presented here over the years, of many different styles, all from artists that I personally enjoy very much, and hope that others will also enjoy.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

So, having just finished what ended up being a yearlong featured look at Progressive Rock, I will now move on to various other things. First up will be some of the various items of interest I picked up over the past year but haven't had a chance to post yet (because didn't fit into the progressive rock theme), which includes some new finds from some old friends. But I will continue to feature many artists that may not have been immensely popular, but are fine musicians that deserve to be heard by a wider audience, or at least give some more people an opportunity to check them out. So, I will continue on with this endeavor, albeit at the relatively slow rate of 2-4 posts per month, and I hope that you will follow along and sample from it whenever you see something of interest. As always, I encourage feedback and discussion of anything mentioned or presented here. Let me know what you think of things and this wonderful music all around us. Thanks to all.

A Decade of BB

Quality Music Blog for a Tenth of a Century

Before continuing with posts for my current Tribute to Progressive Rock feature, I must take time out to acknowledge a rather momentous occasion, the tenth anniversary of this blog. Yes, that's right, believe it or not, the BB Chronicles has managed to stick around for a whole ten years! In blog years that's almost like 100. Ok, so, it may not be that much, but it is something, and it has survived long after so many other music blogs have come and gone. So, here we are, after 10 years, and although I post at a somewhat sporadic rate, we have covered a whole lot over the years, from features covering country-rock to pub rock to power pop to progressive rock, from The Kinks to Neil Young to Genesis to Tom Petty, from local to international music scenes, the obscure to the mega-popular, from Aliotta Haynes and Jeremiah to Steve Goodman to Golden Smog to The Vulgar Boatmen, from Aimee Mann to Zoe Daschanel, from The Grays to The Beatles, from America to Wilco, etc., and everything in between, on several hundred music posts, hundreds of thousands of downloads, and millions of pageviews, and it's all still here (mostly). And what I have put out here is some really quality stuff, all music and artists that I personally enjoy very much, and many of these shows are (or at least were) not readily available elsewhere. I try to provide some background and context to the music and artists, as well as my own commentary, rather than just unadorned music files, to give those new to these artists some perspective and history, to explore the music further. And in that sense I hope that what I have provided here has been useful and worthwhile, as well as musically satisfying. And so, I am somewhat proud of what I have assembled here over the past decade, and I hope it has been something that you come back to often and have been introduced to some new music here that you really enjoy, to expand your musical horizons and enjoyment, and be a positive addition to your musical experience as well as your music collection.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. They are supported by fans like us.

So, I plan to continue on with this little endeavor for as long as possible, such as it is. Perhaps part of my secret to longevity is that I don't spend an inordinate amount of time working on this (just what I can spare at the moment), thus I have not gotten burned out from it. Anyway, I very much enjoy doing it, just have a limited amount of time I can devote to it. But I will always strive to provide new and interesting content that is generally not readily available from many of the the other music blogs. As I've said previously, I do wish I could get more comments, feedback, and discussion from you, the readers of this blog. Please, let me know what you think of what is here, provide your own insight and perspective, and some real discussion of some of this great music. I would love to hear and see more from you, if possible. So, for know, I'll just keep things going as they are, and I hope you will stop by occasionally, check it out, and and join me on this journey. Thanks to all.

Nine Years? Really?

Number 9, Number 9, Number 9....

Well well well, here we are, all the way to year number 9. That's right, it's the 9th anniversary of this little old blog. Another year has come around and its a blog birthday of 9 years now (and counting) for the BB Chronicles. It may not be much, but it is something, and it is mine, and it has survived long after many others have come and gone. OK, so yes, I have slacked off lately and don't post as much or as often as in previous years, but hey, I'm still going, and it's all (most of it anyway) still here available to all. So, after 9 years, several hundred music posts, hundreds of thousands of downloads, and several million pageviews, I'm still here. And so, I am somewhat proud of what I have assembled here over these past 9 years, and I hope it has been something that you come back to often and have been introduced to some new music here that you really enjoy, to expand your musical horizons and enjoyment in addition to your music collection.

And once again, as I have each year at this time, I also want to take this time to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. I am only able to offer these downloads because others before me have made them available. So, to all the other bloggers, tapers, forum posters, and music fans that have collected these recordings and made them available over the internet, as well as to all the great artists and musicians out there that allow these recordings to be freely exchanged, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You. And again, I implore everyone to purchase all the official releases of your favorite artists. The music here serves to supplement, not replace, all of their officially released music. I hope to be able to continue this endeavor, albeit primarily in the same sporadic way it has been up to now, for some time to come, but you never know what the future brings. I've made it through some rough patches and am still going, so, should be able to continue a while longer. I very much enjoy doing it, but just have a very limited time I can devote to it. But I will always strive to provide new and interesting content that is generally not readily available from most of the the other music blogs. I do have some pretty interesting stuff planned for the upcoming weeks (new old stuff from fresh artists and blog favorites, and more upgrades of previously posted stuff), so if you've liked some of what I've posted so far, stick around for some more great stuff.

A Great 8 Years

BB's 8th Anniversary

Hey now, what do you know? Another year has come around and its a blog birthday of 8 years now. It just sorta snuck up on me, and I didn't even realize that the anniversary was coming around, but here it is, 8 years of BB Chronicles. OK, so it's not a big deal, no big celebration or anything special to commemorate the event (after all I only post something about once a week), but still, 8 years is quite awhile in the land of music blogs. So many others have come and gone in that time. So, it is something. And so, I am somewhat proud of what I have assembled here over the last 8 years, and I hope it has been something that you come back to often and have been introduced to some new music here that you really enjoy, to expand your musical horizons and enjoyment in addition to your music collection. I also take pride that most of the music that has ever been posted here, is still available for download, even multiple years after first posting. I try to keep the links up to date as much as possible, so that the music will continue to be available for all to sample.

They are supported by fans like us.

I hope to be able to continue this endeavor, albeit primarily in the same sporadic way it has been up to now, for some to come, but you never know what the future brings. I've made it through some rough patches and am still going, so, should be able to continue a while longer. I very much enjoy doing it, but just have a very limited time I can devote to it. Seven Years of BB?

 The Seven-Year Stitch

Well, here we are, at, quite unbelievably, the 7th anniversary of this blog. That's right, it's been a full 7 years since I started this little endeavor, and although it has never quite become what I had hoped it would (just haven't had the time to put into it), it has kept chugging along as what it is, averaging about a post a week throughout that 7 year's time. So, it hasn't been the most consistently updated of these types of things, but even at that rate of posting, it has amounted to nearly 400 music shows, bootlegs, and rarities files available for downloading. So many other music blogs have come and gone in that time (some much better than this one), but I have kept on plugging along through thick and thin. And what I have put out here is some really quality stuff, some obscure, much well-known, but all music and artists that I personally enjoy very much, available in as fine of sound quality as possible, and many of these shows are (or at least were) not generally available anywhere else. I try to provide some background and context to the music and artists, as well as my own commentary, rather than just unadorned music files, to give those new to these artists some perspective and history, to explore the music further. And in that sense I hope that what I have provided here has been useful and worthwhile, as well as musically satisfying. And so, I am somewhat proud of what I have assembled here over the last 7 years, and I hope it has been something that you come back to often and have been introduced to some new music here that you really enjoy, as well as the artists that you already knew and liked, to expand your musical horizons and enjoyment in addition to your music collection. I also take pride that most of the music that has ever been posted here, is still available for download, even multiple years after first posting. I try to keep the links up to date as much as possible, so that the music will continue to be available for all to sample. I have been pleasantly surprised that most files have received fairly regular downloads (to keep them active), even for the older posts going back several years. Sure, some of the more-obscure stuff needs to be refreshed every now and then, but overall, shows are still being downloaded pretty regularly, which pleases me to see. I guess it indicates that new people are finding the blog and going back through the older posts. So, that's all good. We seem to be pretty steady regarding visits and pageviews, not increasing, but not declining either.

They are supported by fans like us.

As for the future of the blog, well, who knows? I certainly wouldn't say there will be 7 more years ahead, but you never know. I have contemplated shutting it down several times over the past few years (following various shutdowns, closures, and loss of files), but it continues. At least for the time being,  it will continue pretty much as it has been, that is, on the same limited basis (one or two posts a week, tops). I very much enjoy doing it, but just have a very limited time I can devote to it. So, please be patient, as it may take me some time to get around to posting things, etc. But I will always strive to provide new and interesting content that is generally not available from the other usual music blogs.  As I've said previously, I do wish I could get more comments, feedback, and discussion from you, the readers of this blog. Please, let me know what you think of what is here, provide your own insight and perspective, and some real discussion of some of this great music. I would love to hear and see more from you, if possible.

For the immediate future, I have collected upgraded versions (FLAC or 320 kbps vs. 192k files) for many of the older posts, but just haven't gotten the chance to get the posts updated and improved. so, for the rest of April, rather than posting much new stuff, I'm going to take this chance to get things on the blog updated and upgraded. So, stay tuned for news of these and other changes that will be part of Upgrade April. Hope you like and can use some of these upgraded versions and improvements to the site.

Six Years of 'Chron'

Six Years on the Blog...

While we have been boppin' and rockin' to Rockpile over the past week, this blog, the BB Chronicles, has reached another milestone. It has now been 6 whole years since I started this little musical venture. That's right, we just reached our 6th Anniversary. Now, that may not be much in terms of music  history (most of the music posted here is way older than that), but for this type of music blog, that's quite a long time. So many other very fine sites have come and gone in that time, but this little outpost is still here, with most all of the music I've ever posted still available. Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge that before moving on. We have faced several challenges over the past few years, including having all of my links and uploaded files deleted three separate times (due to closure of filesharing sites, crackdown on potentialcopyright infringement, etc.), but the blog has persevered and right now virtually all of the posts are available once again (however tenuous that may be). Currently, Zippyshare seems to be working very well, has many advantages (fast, multiple downloads, etc.), but also some disadvantages (200MB size limit, only 30-day storage). I thought that the 30-day limit (any file not downloaded over a period of 30 days would be deleted) would be a major headache, especially for some of the older posts, but actually, I have been quite pleased and surprised that most of the files (even the older ones) still get downloaded pretty regularly. There have only been a handful that have had to be re-upped due to non-use. So, it has been very nice to see that these posts still see fairly regular activity even long after they were originally posted. Of course, this has been and will to continue to be a small, personal undertaking, where I try to provide insight, information, commentary, and links to unreleased music content for artists that I feel deserve to be heard and appreciated by more people. In that sense, I do believe that we have something at least a little bit special here, and hopefully, people like what they find here and will keep checking back. so, thanks to all those that do stop by and check things out, and to all those who comment, interact, and provide feedback and more to me.

As for the future of the blog, well, at least for the time being, it will continue pretty much as it has been, that is, on the same limited basis (one or two posts a week, tops). I very much enjoy doing it, but just have a very limited time I can devote to it. So, please be patient, as it may take me some time to get around to posting things, etc. But I will always strive to provide new and interesting content that is generally not available from the other usual music blogs. Frankly, though, I don't really know how long this will be able to continue, but I'll keep it going while I can. I will make my same usual complaint, however, and that is that I do wish I could get more comments, feedback, and discussion from you, the readers of this blog. Please, let me know what you think of what is here, provide your own insight and perspective, and some real discussion of some of this great music. i would love to hear and see more from you, if possible.

Coming right up will be even more from Rockpile (as they have been very well-received), as well as some more of the 'pub rock' bands, as I continue with that feature, and hopefully much more interesting stuff over the next several months.

...and I'll be posting more tonight!

Still Alive at Number 5

BB's 5th B-day

Well, believe it or not, but this week marks the 5th anniversary of this blog. That's right, BB Chronicles has been around for a full five years now. And in these days (especially the last year and a half), with the struggles, closures, shutdowns and changing rules and carriers for file sharing, where it has become very difficult to maintain any music-related blog with downloadable content, that this little endeavor has lasted 5 years is pretty amazing. I know that very few of the music blogs that I used to visit when I first started this project are still around today. So, I guess that is quite an accomplishment in itself.
Of course, this has been and will to continue to be a small, personal undertaking, where I try to provide insight, information, commentary, and (perhaps most importantly) links to unreleased music content for artists that I feel deserve to be heard and appreciated by more people. In that sense, I do believe that we have something at least a little bit special here. Over the last 5 years, I have made available here nearly 300 different concerts, shows, and other unreleased music, most of which are still available here, and much of which is not generally available from other sites or blogs (or is very difficult to find). Sure, there are many other sites that deal in much larger volumes, quantities and varieties of offerings, but generally with little to no information or commenary on what is being offered. I only present and post those things that I truly feel are worthwhile and that I hope others will enjoy. I never post anything that I have not listened to myself, and if there is any issue with the content or quality, I will surely let you know.  So, hopefully, this is a somewhat unique place to check out.

Once again, at this time I also feel obliged to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it.

As for the future of the blog, well, at least for the immediate future, it will continue pretty much as it has been, that is, on the same limited basis (one or two posts a week, tops). One disappointment has been that I had hoped that we could build a sort of community of followers that would comment on and discuss some of the music and artists that are presented here (like the active groups at Willard's Wormholes and some other sites), but, sadly, that has not happened here, with generally very few comments (this year so far averaging less than 1 comment per post) and virtually no discussion. So, I really would like to hear from you more, if possible.

Next up for the blog, in celebration and commemoration of this 5th anniversary, as well as to memorialize the loss of so many other excellent music sites and blogs, over the next few weeks I will be featuring some of the 'classic' bootlegs that every fan should have. These will include some of the greatest bootleg albums of all time. These are all downloads that I have not previously featured here simply because they were readily available elsewhere and were not needed to be posted here. However, in the meantime, with the demise of so many great sites, some of these are no longer so easy to find, and many of the 'newer' fans may not have them, so I will now offer some of them here. So, get ready. Most of you veterans and die-hard fans of these artists should already have these, but if not, here will be your chance once again to collect them.

Up first will be one of the all-time great unreleased albums, Neil Young's Chrome Dreams from 1976. so, stay tuned for more great music adventures, as we start our 6th year here at BB Chronicles.

Four Years On

Another B-day for 'BB'

Well, here we are once again. This week marks 4 full years since I started this little blog endeavor. And, although this past year has been filled with much turmoil and immense challenges for myself and anyone running this kind of music blog (we are still trying to somewhat recover from the devastation of the megaupload disaster and its ramifications), me and the blog are still here, and hopefully going strong, whereas many others have disappeared recently. More importantly, in many other ways this past year has been the most rewarding and quite possibly, the best year yet for the blog. More than ever before, you the blog readers and supporters have been responding and providing new music, insight, and fresh content for me and this blog, and has enabled me to feature some great new things (like previously unavailable recordings and info) that are not available anywhere else, and that may not have surfaced for others to enjoy if iw wasn't for this small outpost for music lovers. And for that, I heartily thank you the followers of this blog, and especially those that have given (or offered to give) back to me or the blog through their own unique music collections and recordings. Of course you are already aware of the unique and incredible offerings that have been made possible by our taper friend David M, but there are many others (like David Bailey, Rob Bishop, Joe Coughlan, Stephan Soppa, Geoff (oxonbhoy), and Barry Bartlett to name just a few more) that have also taken the time and effort to share what they have and contribute, which has been a great boon to the blog. And their (as well as other) contributions will continue. So again, thanks so much. Once again, I also feel obliged to thank and celebrate all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. I am only able to offer these downloads because others before me have made them available. So, to all the other bloggers, forum posters, and music fans that have collected these recordings and made them available over the internet, as well as to all the great artists and musicians out there that allow these recordings to be freely exchanged, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You.

As for the future of the blog, well I will continue as best I can on the limited basis that I have (and I have some great stuff coming soon). I very much enjoy doing it (and receive much in back in return), but just have a very limited time to devote to it. So, please be patient, as it may take me some time to get around to posting things, etc. But I will always strive to provide new and interesting content that is generally not available from the other usual music blogs. But, be forewarned that with the tenuous nature of the current filesharing situation, we could easily be shutdown or rendered linkless at any time (If Mediafire is taken down - and they are being targeted by MPAA - that would probably end the downloading here, as I don't think I am up to re-re-posting everything yet again). Note: For those that are missing the Lossless file links, sorry, but it has been difficult getting those back online with the current state of filesharing (Although I have put some on Depositfiles, I'm not really that happy with their service [speed and availability], and am reluctant to load much on there).

Anyway, no big deal (well, actually, 4 years is a pretty big deal), just wanted to acknowledge our big fourth anniversary here 'BB Chronicles'.

'BB' Makes Three

BB Chronicles celebrates third anniversary

Hard to believe, I know, but this little music-oriented internet outpost has now been in existence for three whole years. Time flies when you're listening to great music, right?  So, anyway, it's no big deal, but I guess it is something of an achievement just to have persisted this long as a music blog these days. I know that over the past year or so I've seen many of these kinds of sites that I have enjoyed closing down for one reason or another. And although I can't guarantee just how much longer I will be able to keep this thing going, I will say that I will continue as best I can with the sporadic (but high quality) output you have come to know and expect here. Although quantity is certainly not what I go for here, I'm proud to say that the number of posts have increased each year, as well as the viewership and numbers of downloads. Hopefully, what I provide here is of enough interest and value to at least a core group of followers with similar musical interests that people regularly stop by to check out, not only what there is to download, but also what I have to say about the artists and their music And that seems to be what is happening. This will always remain a personal project for me, and thus will reflect my personal music preferences. One thing I will guarantee is that there will never be any ads or commercial enterprises of any kind on this site (and that even includes the practice of dividing up files into multiple small units in order to earn 'download credits' or points from file-sharing sites - I don't do that). This site is just about discussing, sharing, and spreading the word about artists and music I enjoy, and specifically to try to make more available some of their great music that has not been commercially-released or made available through other outlets. Once again, as I have in the past, I also want to take this time to thank all the others out there who have made so much of this great music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. If you've followed this blog so far, you've probably gotten a pretty good idea of the kinds of music and artists I prefer, and it is quite a wide variety of stuff. I know that lately (over the past couple months) the blog has been devoted almost solely to country-rock type offerings (SHF, Hillman, Souther, Firefall, etc.), and it has been a great joy and privilege to be able to exclusively present and make available these previously uncirculated (from our friend David M) recordings, and more of these special recordings will continue to be featured here periodically and as they become available to me. But for those that are not into this particular music, rest assured that much other music will also be featured and presented. So, I hope you will stay with me as I continue this endeavor into our 4th year.  We'll start off this 4th year by changing the look of the site a bit, but for the most part, things will continue as they have been. Hope you enjoy all that's coming (and continue to enjoy what's already available here). I know I will.

Up next: Some spring cleaning! Clearing out (by posting) some great shows by previously featured artists that I just didn't have time to get to before.

Happy Birthday to the 'Chronicles'

Happy 2nd Birthday !

Well, believe it or not, this fledgeling little blog has been going for 2 full years's now, so Happy Birthday BB Chronicles! With so many music blogs coming and going very quickly these days, I guess that in itself is an achievement. Although this is only a very part-time activity, I am proud that I was able to substantially increase the number of posts and downloads in my second year compared to the first. Although I am at the very limit of amount of time I can spend on this already, I will try to keep active with updates and posts of great music that may be hard to find elsewhere. I hope that there are at least some of you out there that find something of interest here on a regular basis and keep checking back. Thank you to those of you that regularly visit. I have enjoyed this experience alot (though it is quite a bit of work) and it is great to be able to share my thoughts and tastes in music with others (although it would be nice to get some more comments and feedback on what you think of the music and opinions offered here). Most of all, though, as I did last year at this time, what I really want to do is thank all the others out there who have made so much of this incredible music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. It has been a tremendous experience to have the opportunity to collect and listen to such a wide variety of great concerts, shows, and sessions that I never knew existed before or never would have heard. Thus, if I can share some of that joy with even just a few others through this blog, than it surely is worth it. So, thank you all again, and keep listening.

One Year of Occasional Blogness

Believe it or not, it has now been a full year since I made the first post on this fledgling blog. Now I know that I haven’t exactly been making regular posts throughout that year (only 19 total posts?), but still, I suppose, it does mean something to make it through a full year. Although I knew when I started that it would be a somewhat sporadic venture, as I just didn’t have much time to devote to it, I had intended make more regular and varied posts than I have managed to date. In particular, I planned to have more regular features of commentary and discussion on music and musicians of interest, and not just the music posts alone. Nonetheless, I have managed to post some pretty nifty music offerings, and I have been proud to be able to find and share these with everyone. So, I do plan to keep this going for awhile, and I will try to do a better job of making regular and worthwhile posts. So, here on this 1-year anniversary, from now on I pledge to average at least 2 posts a month or more, and to provide more than just bootleg recordings for download. Now, this will never be some major music site by any means, it will remain a small, relatively obscure outpost. I will only post things that are not already available on the primary web sources for ROIO and bootleg recordings (such as T.U.B.E, G101forum, BigO, and others listed in the sidebar), nor will I try to post the really rare, obscure, or OOP recordings, as there are many sites that do this much better than I can (such as Rare Mp3 Music and others). What I will try to do is provide links to download live music and sessions by some of my favorite artists that maybe you haven’t heard before, and to provide some interesting information, opinions, and commentary on the music and some music issues. For those that have found this site to have something of interest, I thank you for your patronage, and I hope this remains a place you come back to periodically to check out and enjoy. Mostly though, I want to thank all the others out there who have made so much of this incredible music, which is not available for purchase anywhere, freely available to all who wish to download and enjoy it. So, to all the other bloggers, forum posters, and music fans that have collected these recordings and made them available over the internet, as well as to all the great artists and musicians out there that allow these recordings to be freely exchanged, I offer a huge and heartfelt Thank You. It has been a tremendous experience to have the opportunity to collect and listen to such a wide variety of great concerts, shows, and sessions that I never knew existed before or never would have heard, and it has only increased my interest in these musicians and their music (and yes, that includes buying more of their official releases). Thus, if I can share some of that joy with even just a few others through this blog, than it surely is worth it. So, thank you all and keep listening.
