The Aimee Mann & Ted Leo Christmas Show

2019-12-09 (Early Show)
Live at Largo at the Coronet, Los Angeles, CA
Audience recording, good quality
Mp3 @ 320 kbps

While the Christmas spirit is still with us, here's another Christmas-themed show. A recent entry in the series of Aimee Mann Christmas shows. This one is from last Christmas (2019), when live shows and Christmas events like these were still possible. Aimee Mann and Ted Leo got together several years ago to from the rock duo The Both, and although the collaboration produced only one studio album (The Both-2014, which was very good), Mann and Leo have been performing together on and off since then, such as in her 2014 and 2015 Christmas shows, and again last year for her 2019 shows. As usual, this is a musical-variety show that mixes music (holiday and otherwise) with some banter, skits, and comedy bits, and feature several other guest artists in addition to Aimee and Ted. Guest artists at this year's show included Lisa Loeb, Paul Tompkins, and Josh Ritter, as well as some other surprises. Enjoy the Holidays with Aimee and Ted. Merry Christmas One and All.

Here's the return of Aimee and Ted's Christmas show, this time the 2015 edition (last year's show). Aimee and Ted joined together a few years ago to form The Both. Last year, I posted their 2014 Christmas Show, which marked the return of Aimee's Annual Christmas shows after missing several years. Aimee did not tour with a Christmas show for the current year (2016), so this is the most recent Christmas show available. These popular shows are a musical-variety show that mixes much music (holiday and otherwise) with some banter, skits, and comedy bits, and features several other artists in addition to Aimee and Ted. This year's guests included Liz Phair, Jonathan Coulton (who also was in the 2014 shows), and John Roderick. The theme in this year's show (or running gag, if you will) is a recurring bit about North pole politics and the ongoing Santa Elections. Song highlights include a new song from Aimee and Ted ('You're a Gift'), holiday favorites, artist standards, and some unique twists and variations on familiar songs. Overall, a very entertaining show. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and all the best.

Aimee Mann & Ted Leo (& Friends) - 2014-12-09 - The Return of The Aimee Mann Christmas Show - Boston, MA

Aimee Mann & Ted Leo

"The Return of the Aimee Mann Christmas Show"
The Wilbur Theatre, Boston, MA

Audience recording, good quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 (320 kbps) versions

After hosting a series of what became annual Musical-Variety Christmas Shows (with guest stars, music, comedy, sketches, videos, etc.) that ran from 2006 to 2011, Aimee Mann took a few years off from the holiday affairs, but then in 2014 came back with Ted Leo, her recent partner in the musical collaboration The Both, to host another round of the popular Christmas Shows, which was dubbed, naturally, 'The Return of the Aimee Mann Christmas Show'. In this recent incarnation of the show (which always have some kind of theme), Aimee and Ted  play Rock n' Roll detectives, that is, they are musician crime solvers, they travel around the world, rockin' and rollin' and solvin' murders, but for this show, Aimee doesn't want to have to solve any murders, just have a fun, festive holiday show. But, of course, then they hear that the Backstage Santa has just been murdered. Aimee just wants to carry on with the show, but Ted thinks they need to solve the murder, setting the stage for some onstage mayhem. The songs, of course, are the main thing, though, and they play numerous Holiday standards, as well as a few of their own catalog songs, and are joined by guests Jonathan Coulton, Susanna Hoffs, and Bill Janovitz (Buffalo Tom), for a few songs each. And if you are not interested in the in-between song banter and antics, these are tracked separately so can be edited out, if desired (Some of those antics lose a lot without the visuals as we don't know what is happening onstage causing the audience laughter, etc.). But, overall, an entertaining show. This is from the Boston performance of the show. Also, Aimee and Ted have continued on in 2015 with a new version of the Christmas Show, which has just wrapped up its series of performances (unfortunately, I have not yet found any recorded versions of the 2015 show, which is said to have featured Liz Phair as a guest artist). Enjoy, and Happy Holidays to all.
