Here's more early Steve Goodman, with some excellent-sounding, but unfortunately incomplete radio show performances from 1973. And as a special bonus here, the Bryn Mawr set includes Steve performing with his good friend John Prine. They sing a couple of classic Prine songs together (Dear Abby. Paradise), and then go into an extended medley of Hank Williams songs, with each taking turns singing lead. It's wonderful to hear the two of them performing together, and obviously enjoying themselves as they do. So, more great stuff here.

I was at WXPN that afternoon when they came up and did a live radio concert for us. I helped engineer the show. One of the most treasured experiences of my time there. Philly was central to the early 70s folk revival and many of the local legends came up to the station as well as national artists as they passed through town to play at the Main Point or other venues in town.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone remember John Prine playing at the academy of music in philadelphia early April 1973? I saw him there but cant remember the date or if Steve Goodman played with him.
ReplyDeleteI know I saw John Prine and Steve Goodman together at the Academy of Music and spring of 1973 would make sense although I can't recall the month or date.
ReplyDeleteI was in a box over stage left for the show, and had some friends in the opposite box, stage right. It was the first of many times I'd see them, individually and separately. They're two of the reasons I took up songwriting way back when.
