Liberated Dandelion bootleg
Soundboard recording, excellent quality

Continuing with more live shows from Neil, here is another great bootleg from the '90's, from a couple years earlier, this time with Crazy Horse, that features great sound quality and combines two shows from 1997, the first, from 7/20/97, Englewood, CO, was part of the H.O.R.D.E. festival series of shows. The second part comes from his annual Bridge School Benefit shows from that year, 10/18-19/1997, from Mountainview, CA. Both shows put together (with even a couple more filler tracks) make up this excellent quality boot, which was titled "From the HORDE to the Bridge" and when it was previously available 'for sale'. Now, it has been liberated 'for distribution only', but although excellent quality, this has not been as widely available as several other shows from this time period. So, here it is now. Enjoy.

NEIL YOUNG (solo acoustic)
April 18, 1999
Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA
Rustin' Away In Boston
Audience recording, very good quality
Available in both Lossless (Flac) and mp3 (@320) versions
Following up on the comprehensive 1999 tour compilation already posted, here is a good example of a complete single show from that tour. This show comes from about mid-way through the tour, and features a notably eclectic assemblage of songs that was typical on this tour. A couple of oddities were that this was the only show on the tour where he played 'Mansion on the Hill', and one of only 3 shows where he played 'Comes A Time'. This is a nice sounding recording, impinged only slightly by some overly enthusiastic fans in a few spots. And, as always, I have also included this show because it is one that is not already readily available elsewhere.
So, please enjoy some more from Neil's 1999 shows, this time a representative complete show, rather than the compilation.

Neil Young - An Evening With Neil Young Solo: The 1999 Tour Compilation
Neil Young
An Evening With Neil Young Solo: The 1999 Tour Compilation
Essential acoustic compilation on 5CD - 74 tracks
Rust / Human Highway Community production
Recording source and quality varies, but mostly very to good to excellent quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 @320 kbps versions

This is a legendary compilation that I have been looking for since before I started this blog, and has been on my request list ever since. Well, I finally acquired it along with many other excellent Neil Young shows and boots (thanks to Pink Robert and his wonderful collection). And it is an impressive compilation, put together by the Rust/Human Highway Community folks, that chronicles Neil's excellent 1999 solo acoustic tour, and includes all the different songs performed on that historic tour. This US tour, which lasted 3 months, from March 2 to June 2, 1999, was done completely solo. Over the course of the approximately 40 shows, Neil performed a total of 68 different songs, and all are represented here, as well as selections recorded from 25 different shows on the tour. This is a wonderful document of this tour, and the compilers did a great job of selecting quality versions, keeping an order resembling the flow of the shows themselves, and maintaining continuity from song to song and show to show. Great job. And although there are numerous good recordings of individual entire shows from this tour (and I highly recommend getting at least 1 or 2 of those complete shows), it is also great to get the full breadth of the material played, and different versions from all the different concert venues in this compilation. Yes, it wasn't really anything new for Neil to step away from his various bands and projects to do these solo shows in 1999, as he has done various solo shows and tours from time to time over the years (and there are many great solo shows from other tours also available), and they are always interesting and worth listening to, but this 1999 compilation may be one of the best overall documents of an entire solo tour.

Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels - 1973-03-25 - Final Night, Oliver's, Boston, MA
Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels
(featuring Emmylou Harris)
March 25, 1973
Final Night in Boston
Oliver's, Boston, MA
Complete show (both sets)
Audience master recording (taped by David M), Good quality
Available as both Lossless (FLAC) and
mp3 (320kbps) versions
Artwork Included
At long last, here it is, the 'other' Gram Parsons recording from his week-long stint at Oliver's in Boston in 1973, as promised. This one is from the final night's show (which was also apparently, the final night of this tour) on 3/25/73. Once again, this is an exclusive, previously uncirculated audience recording from our friend David M. Although this show features a setlist virtually the same as the previously featured 3/20 GP show (albeit a bit shorter, with loss of the songs 'New Soft Shoe', 'Hearts on Fire', and 'How Much I Lied'), there is one new song that was not played at the earlier show, 'A Song For You' from GP, and features several other elements that make it worthwhile to download this in addition to the previous 3/20 opening night show. Overall, the recording is pretty good, but the sound suffers from various onstage sound problems throughout the performance (whoever the sound guy was that night seemed to be somewhat incompetent, with poorly balanced mixes, feedback, and numerous sound anomalies throughout), which mars an otherwise wonderful performance. I have tried to smooth over some of these sound problems as much as possible, but there are still some very inconsistent vocal/instrument mixes (too soft on some songs, too loud on others, etc. In addition, there were many instances of momentary dropouts and channel loss that I have corrected where I could. There also are a couple of cuts due to tape flips (in 'Sin City' and 'Love Hurts'), but I have spliced in a segment from the earlier show to cover the missing section (with mixed results), as well as a short dropout gap in the 2nd set 'Six Days on The Road' that I could not adequately fill. One nice thing is the tape flips occur in different songs than in the previous show, so now we have full complete versions of 'California Cottonfields' and the ten-minute plus RnR Medley, which had cuts in the previous show. All in all, a wonderful addition to the few already available complete show recordings from this immensely talented and influential musician. Thanks again to David M for providing this wonderful document of the live shows from this legendary but unfortunately short-lived musician/performer.
