Jackson Browne - 2004-03-16 - New York - RnR HOF Celebration Concert

Jackson Browne (& Friends)
2004-3-16
Beacon Theatre, NYC, NY

RnR HOF Celebration Concert (Night after Jackson's HOF Induction)
Audience recording, good quality
mp3 (VBR 160-320 kbps) files

More Jackson Browne, from quite a bit later in his career. On March 15, 2004, Jackson Browne was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Fame, with his induction speech and comments made by Bruce Springsteen. On the following night, March 16, Jackson staged a celebration concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York with guest appearances from some of his friends and music colleagues, and here it is for you. This fun and energetic show features songs from all throughout his illustrious career, from the early songs of 'Doctor My Eyes', 'These Days', and 'Take It Easy', up through several songs from his most recent album (at that time), The Naked Ride Home, this is a very entertaining show, and the inclusion of the guests just add to the enjoyment. It's not a great (audience) recording, but it is pretty good quality overall. For some perspective and historical interest, I've also included some bonus audio tracks from the actual HOF ceremony the night before, including Bruce's induction speech, Jackson's acceptance speech, and Jackson's HOF performance of Runnin' On Empty (these audio tracks were extracted from the youtube videos, so are of lesser quality, but since they are primarily spoken words, they are just fine). So, enjoy Jackson & friends celebrating his well-deserved induction into the HOF.

John Prine - BBC shows (1971 and 1973)

John Prine
BBC shows (1971 and 1973)

TV and FM Broadcast recordings, very good quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 (320 kbps) versions

Ok, just one more dose of John Prine, this one combining a couple of short BBC performances in the early 1970's (1971 and 1973). So, here we have John in his younger days and more exuberant voice once again. Although there are 4 classic songs that are repeated in the 2 short sets, these performances nonetheless also provide a few songs from this period (Pretty Good, Rocky Mtn, and Everybody Needs Somebody) that have not been featured in any of the shows previously posted. So, here is a few more from the Great John Prine. It's also interesting to note that throughout the 40-plus years John has been performing, he has kept Spanish Pipedream as his opening song (or if not opening, then as closing song) throughout most of his concert performances throughout his career (Quite unusual to open with the same song year after year).

1971 - BBC2 In Concert TV Broadcast
01 Spanish Pipedream
02 Donald and Lydia
03 Sam Stone
04 Paradise
05 The Great Compromise
06 Everybody Needs Somebody

1973 - BBC studios, London (FM)
01 Spanish Pipedream
02 Illegal Smile
03 Donald and Lydia
04 Sam Stone
05 Pretty Good
06 Rocky Mountain
07 Hello In There

John Prine
(and featuring Iris DeMent)
March 3, 2000
Oven's Auditorium, Charlotte, NC

Audience recording, good quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 (320 kbps) versions

More from John Prine, again featuring a particular period that hasn't been represented here yet. This show comes from 2000, not long after John's return from cancer surgery and treatment. This show features several songs from John's 1999 album, In Spite of Ourselves, which consisted of duets (mostly covers) with various female vocalists, and so this show also includes performances from his favorite of these female vocalists, Iris DeMent, on many songs, which makes this show unique from most others. It also includes exemplary backup work and vocals from David Jacques and Jason Wilbur, on bass and guitar-mandolin. A very nice show from this later period.

John Prine - 1996-05-13 - Frutigen, Switzerland

John Prine (with Band)
1996-05-13
Singer Songwriter Festival, Frutigen, Switzerland

FM Broadcast recording, very good quality
Available in both Lossless (FLAC) and mp3 (320 kbps) versions

Previously available John Prine shows have now been upgraded to Lossless and and 320 kbps bitrate mp3's where available. And here's another Prine show for you all. This one is from 1996, with full band, in a performance at the Singer-Songwriter Festival in Frutigen Switxerland, featuring a fine, compact setlist, and very good sound quality. This show provides a glimpse of Prine during a period not previously featured in other posts here. And this 1996 tour represented his last before being diagmosed with neck cancer, and following extensive surgery and radiation treatments, being out of music for a couple years. Thus, this also represents the last shows that featured his 'younger man's voice', because after his recovery from cancer, his voice was noticably deeper and rougher (and he had to relearn all his songs in lower keys). So, here's more from the incomparable John Prine.
